About Eva

I am a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans visual art, scenic design, writing, music, songwriting, and theatrical performance.

I began painting oils at five years old on my grandparents’ farm in Kalbar, Queensland. A creatively-charged childhood led me to study architecture and visual art, before unexectedly taking a side quest into psychology. This non-linear path allowed the creative and clinical to inform each other. My practice now sits at the intersection of art, observation, and human behaviour - a socially engaged, shape-shifting creative life that defies tidy boxes and straight-line bios.

With solo exhibitions at the Brisbane Powerhouse, QPAC, Judith Wright Centre, and the Agora Gallery in New York, my visual art explores feminine embodiment, environmental stewardship, bold abstraction and the sacred intelligence of the natural world. My work channels themes of beauty, transformation and light — often drawing from the unseen realms that connect us across time and space.

I’ve contributed illustrations to international mental health programs, written and illustrated the children’s book Little Things Big Things, and created immersive installations for thousands of children through a Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) project.

As a set designer and visual artist for stage and screen, my credits include Bear Country (Russell Crowe), Runner (Owen Wilson), Mamma Mia, Blacksite, The Possessed, and Every Brilliant Thing (Matilda Award-winning, That Production Company).

My parallel music career is equally eclectic — fronting indie rock, punk cabaret, dark wave duos, and alternative folk bands; collaborating on gothic metal opera; and composing for theatre including The Eisteddfod by Lally Katz and The Tragic Tale of Dr Faustus (Skill Set Productions). I write and perform on keys, bass, cello and vocals.

I hold a Master’s Degree in Psychology, a Grad Cert in Public Health, a Post Grad Diploma in Educational Studies, and a BA Arts. Across nearly two decades in the psychology field, I’ve worked as a counsellor, lecturer, wellness manager and private practitioner. I currently run my online practice at openbirdcage.com.au and counsel emerging creatives at JMC Academy in Brisbane.

Through everything I do, my mission remains the same:
To weave beauty, honour full expression, and nurture meaningful connection within ourselves, with each other, and with place.
